Washington “WTA 500”
# Ukrainian third seed Marta Kostyuk (WTA No. 34) defeated French tennis leader Caroline Garcia (WTA No. 6) 6:2 and 6:3 in the round of 16 on Thursday.

• The Ukrainian turned out to be much superior in points after the first serve (86% against 59), in points after the second serve (71% against 43) and in break points – 4/8 against 0/1. Net wins to unforced errors: 14-6 to 5-23.
• Kostyuk was unable to defeat the “top 10” tennis players for a long time (up to the threshold of 21 years, her balance was 0-14). She turned 21 on June 28, and now has two victories over the “top 10” – in Wimbledon she beat the Greek Maria Sakari (0:6, 7:5 6:2), but now she is also successful in Washington.
• In the latest world ranking, the Ukrainian will rise to the record-high 32nd place (if she continues to win this week, she will climb even higher).

Prague “WTA 250”
# France’s number three Alize Cornet (WTA 65) defeated 38-year-old Estonian number one Kaija Kanepi (WTA 92) 7-6, 5-7 and 6-4 in their first match since 2010.
• The 33-year-old French woman proved superior in total points – 125:114. Double fault stats: 13-0.
• The 27-year-old Estonian Anete Kontaveita, who retired due to health reasons, is no longer in the world rankings. In order not to slide further down, there is an option to ask to be excluded from the ranking. The former world vice-leader did not want to slide lower and lower.
That fighting SPIRIT 🙌
