In a statement, the FSB said a criminal case of spying had been opened on the man’s behalf. The FSB also said that the man, who was not named, worked for Ukraine’s intelligence services.
The agency said the man was suspected of trying to recruit workers at the Tula arms factory as informants. The factory, located about 170 km south of Moscow, produces advanced guided missiles as well as automatic and sniper rifles for military use.
“The man was trying to obtain state secrets regarding the latest types of weapons and related secret technical documents and weapons being developed,” the FSB said, as reported by Reuters on Monday (23/8/2021).
The Ukrainian side, neither from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs nor from their intelligence services, has yet to make a statement on this matter. Also read: Russia: Ukraine May Have the Same Fate as Afghanistan
