A Ukrainian major general who was arrested in 2020 has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for high treason after collaborating with Russia.
The major general was employed by the country’s security service (SBU).
He has been convicted of leaking information to Russia. according to riksadvokaten i Ukraina he is also found guilty of having hired assassins for an attack on the leader of a Chechen battalion that fought for Ukraine.
The incidents stem from the time after Moscow-controlled separatists took control of parts of Donetsk and Luhansk counties in the spring of 2014. The major-general was arrested in April 2020. The sentence is not yet legally binding.
