Ukrainian group top favorite to win Eurovision Song Contest

The Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra entertained a hotel in Jerusalem on Tuesday. Their audience: Ukrainian refugees and immigrants. They were in Israel for a mini Eurovision song contest with 23 countries. The band is the absolute top favorite for the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin.

With their song ‘Stefania’, the folk-rap group pays tribute to mothers. According to the band’s frontman, Oleh Psjoek, the song has become an anthem for many Ukrainians since the war. This may have to do with the theme of the song, which revolves around the close bond between mothers and their children, and the safety that mothers provide for their children.

This year’s Eurovision Song Contest will take place in the week of May 10 in Turin, Italy. If the band is unable to make it to the scene due to the war in Ukraine, a pre-recorded live performance will be played during the show. Under pressure from various countries, the European Broadcasting Union announced in February that Russia is not allowed to participate in the song festival.

Ukraine’s most famous rock star is also not shaken by the war. Okean Elzy’s frontman, Svjatoslav Vakartsyuk, has performed in countless exceptional places since the invasion. Watch the video below.
