Ukrainian Foreign Minister Calls for Changing International Law to Arrest Putin

Kuleba: “Change international law to arrest Putin”

It is necessary to review international legislation to bring the Russian leadership to justice: this was said by the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, at the Yes-Yalta European Strategy Conference underway in Kiev. Ukrinform reports it. “We objectively have a problem with current international law, which is not able to hold President Putin, the Russian Prime Minister, whose name I don’t remember, Minister (of Foreign Affairs) Lavrov accountable for crimes of aggression and others. We must choose between lawlessness and justice – said Kuleba -. Consequently, we must follow the path of justice and update international legislation”. According to the minister, if this is not done, it will mean that the world community considers Russia’s crimes against Ukraine not as important as the war in Yugoslavia or the Second World War. Kuleha then recalled that Ukraine demands the creation of an international court, because the so-called hybrid court, which the G7 insists on, does not provide an answer to the question of how to prosecute Russia’s leaders. “For the sake of an international tribunal, for the sake of justice, for the sake of the fight against lawlessness and, ultimately, for the sake of honoring the victims of war and their families, it is necessary to recognize that if the law does not fulfill the goals of establishing justice, then we must change international law, as has been done before, to make justice possible,” he said.
