Ukrainian military intelligence said that Ukrainian forces regained control of offshore platforms for gas and oil exploration near the Crimean Peninsula.
It was reported via the Telegram application that Kiev forces regained control of excavation platforms known as Boyko Towers from Russia in a “unique mission.”
She pointed out that Russia, which annexed the peninsula to its territory in 2014, took control of the platforms in 2015. Moscow has been using them for military purposes since the start of the Ukraine war in February 2022.
“For Ukraine, regaining control of the Boyko Towers is of strategic importance, and as a result, Russia has lost the ability to use them for military purposes,” the intelligence said in a video clip posted on Telegram.
She added, “Russia has been deprived of the ability to fully control the waters of the Black Sea, which brings Ukraine closer to regaining Crimea.”
It was reported that a clash broke out during the operation between Ukrainian special forces on boats and a Russian fighter plane, and that the fighter was damaged and forced to retreat.
It added that it had achieved “valuable gains” such as helicopter munitions and a radar system capable of tracking ship navigation in the Black Sea.
