GUR claims in the messaging service Telegram on Monday that Ukrainian forces have recaptured the platforms in a “unique operation”.
It will be about the drilling rigs known as the “Bojko towers”. According to Ukrainian intelligence, the platforms have been occupied since 2015 by Russia, which the year before conquered and occupied the Krym peninsula.
The platforms have reportedly been used for military purposes since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
According to the British Ministry of Defence have both Russian and Ukrainian forces “periodically occupied them with forces” during the war.
According to GUR, the drilling rigs were boarded by Ukrainian special forces in boats, which a Russian fighter jet tried to avert.
– Russia is now deprived of the ability to have full control in the Black Sea, and this means that Ukraine is one step closer to recapturing Crimea, claims GUR.
Russia has not commented on the information that the drilling rigs are now to be controlled by Ukrainian forces, and the information has not been independently confirmed.
