Ukrainian Forces’ 2023 Counteroffensive Stalled, Dire Predictions Ahead

The advance of Ukrainian forces along the entire front line has been halted. The Wall Street Journal reports that Ukraine has lost some of its most motivated and combat-ready soldiers, gaining only a few square kilometers of territory during the 2023 summer offensive.

The failure of the 2023 counteroffensive has led to dire predictions. Perhaps the biggest problem is that Ukraine is not armed enough to break through Russian defenses. It is unclear whether Ukraine and its allies will be able to develop an alternative approach. Ukraine has lost thousands of military personnel, including some of the most motivated fighters.

“I understand the logic of the West not to give us everything they have. But what will they do when we’re gone?” said Anatoly Kharchenko, commander of an elite unit of airborne troops.

The commander of the operational-strategic group of troops “Tavria” Brigadier General Oleksandr Tarnavski commented on the results of the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian armed forces that began in the summer. He emphasized that the opponent had prepared his defense well. The explosion of the dam wall of the Kakhovka hydroelectric plant on June 6 has delayed the passage of Ukrainian Armed Forces forces across the Dnieper River who were supposed to support counteroffensive operations in other sections of the front.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny is convinced that the 2024 military year will be different from the previous one. He stated that what is being done is to ensure that 2024 is not similar to 2023 in terms of waging war, UNIAN agency writes.
