Ukrainian Ela back on stage

In times of pandemic and war, from the singer Ela’s point of view, it is important to also allow beautiful things. “Even now, music makes you think differently, even if it’s difficult right now,” said the Ukrainian-born musician of the German Press Agency. The 29-year-old appears on Sarah Connor’s “Herz Kraft Werke” tour in some cities as a supporting act. She wants to raise her voice for peace.

Ela came to Germany at the age of eight. Before that, she had spent a lot of time in Kyiv. “I have nice childhood memories of the place – now the people are sitting there in air raid shelters, it hurts a lot,” said the musician, who now lives in Berlin. It is a dilemma for her. “Now we’re already going through a pandemic and the war will finish us off.”

Nevertheless, Ela is looking forward to her concerts and finally getting back together with her fans. “But everything else must not be forgotten.” On the big stage, she wants to draw attention to the war and the suffering in Ukraine and call for solidarity.

Already in 2019 Ela was a support at some of Sarah Connor’s concerts. “Such an arena tour is already crazy,” she said. Ela will appear this month in Hanover, Oberhausen and Dortmund as the support act for Sarah Connor. The tour started in Kiel on Friday and Bremen was on the program on Saturday. At the end of the year Ela’s solo tour will start.

With her folk-pop band Elaiza, the native Ukrainian competed in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in Copenhagen. She has also written songs for Helene Fischer and Adel Tawil, among others. In her own songs she deals with topics such as feminism, love and solidarity.
