A Ukrainian drone camera belonging to the 406th Battalion captured a strange object in footage shared exclusively with the British newspaper “Daily Mail”.
The video was captured by one of more than 300 thermal-vision drones used by the Ukrainian armed forces in their efforts to defend themselves in the context of the war that has been raging with Russia for two years.
The battalion members said during the monitoring process: “What is this? Why is it not moving? A UFO. Enlarge the picture more.”
The unknown object is strikingly similar to the “Baghdad Phantom”, the cylindrical object that was spotted over Iraq in May 2022 by the infrared camera of a US Air Force drone.
Some followers online said that the image is a case of a mirage phenomenon known as “Fata Morgana”, which is the name of an Italian legend.
“Fata Morgana” is an optical phenomenon classified as a type of mirage, which is seen in a narrow strip above the horizon. This mirage phenomenon leads to distortion in the shape of the objects seen, such that they are difficult to distinguish.
The Fata Morgana mirage can be observed at sea or on land, and is rapidly changing, showing objects as compressed or stretched.
The phenomenon of unidentified flying objects preoccupies researchers and scientists, and last year NASA announced the launch of an independent investigation, led by a group of prominent scientists and aviation experts, on the subject.
The term “unidentified flying objects” was replaced with the phrase “unidentified anomalous phenomena”, with the aim of removing the stigma from this topic, which is widely associated with speculation about aliens visiting our planet.
