Jakarta –
A drone Ukraine dropped explosives on a substation in a village Russia near the border on Friday (29/9). This caused a loss of electricity supply to a hospital.
In Belaya, less than 25 kilometers (16 miles) from the border, “a Ukrainian drone dropped two explosive devices on a substation”, Kursk region governor Roman Starovoyt said via the Telegram messaging platform, as reported by the news agency AFPFriday (29/9/2023).
“One of the transformers caught fire. Five residential areas and one hospital had their electricity cut off. Firefighters rushed to the scene,” he added.
“Electricity will be restored as soon as it is safe,” he added.
Russia previously said it had destroyed two drones Ukraine in the neighboring Belgorod region.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the first drone was “foiled” at around 17:00 (1400 GMT) on Thursday (28/9).
The second drone was dropped about four hours later.
“A Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle was destroyed in the Belgorod region by an air defense system,” the ministry said via Telegram.
Belgorod and Kursk, south of Moscow, border eastern Ukraine.
Since Ukraine launched a counteroffensive in early June, Russia has experienced a wave of drone strikes that have sporadically damaged buildings, including in Moscow.
