Riga, April 14, LETA. At the 26th Riga International Short Film Festival “2Anna” “Ukrainian director Olha Zhurba’s short film” Dad’s Sneakers “or” Dad’s sneakers “received the” Grand Prix “for impeccable directing and sensitive solution of a sensitive theme, the festival representative Agnese Krastkalne informed LETA.
On April 13, the award ceremony of the festival “2Anna” took place in the temporary home of the Cannabis Culture Center “Diagonale”. The winner of the Grand Prix was announced, as well as the best feature films, animated and documentary short films, the best Baltic short film and a medium-length film. The awards also went to short films in the category of children and young people, which were judged directly by the audience.
Zhurba’s short film tells the story of thirteen-year-old Sasha from an orphanage that a family would like to adopt, but something doesn’t let her go. The jury praised the nuanced imitation of reality in live action.
In turn, the growth story “Storm Memoirs” received the plaster statuette as the best feature film, but “Who Responds in Silence” was recognized as the best animated short film.
The best documentary short film was awarded to “Ome’s Sexual Life”, which also recently received the Grand Prix at the Tampere Film Festival. A spokeswoman for the festival says that the clever animation intertwined with the archive photographs contrasts and emphasizes the stigmatized and predetermined role of women in Slovenia in the first half of the 20th century.
“Sierra” received the award for the best Baltic short film. The winners of this category also received a special prize from BBPostHouse for the post-production of € 2,000. In the unusual category for short film festivals, in which medium-length films were judged, the prize was won by the experimental film “Alizava” – a story about an orphan Alizava and her father, whose soul lives in various objects.
The films “Police Possession” and “Eyes and Horns” received recognition from the jury. The winners of the International Children’s and Youth Short Film Competition were voted on by the young film enthusiasts. In the category of children’s short films, “Lapsa” received a glass diploma, but young people recognized the short film “Only a Child” as the best. The film “Commander’s Hour” by the Latvian director Elza Gauja received a special award from the golf club “Viesturi”.
The short films were judged by an international jury – Olga Gusiatinska, curator of the Kiev International Short Film Festival and head of the translation department, Joni Menniste, a filmmaker and animator from Finland, the artistic director of the Turkish Animation Festival, and Adriāna Roze, a Latvian director.
