A major Russian breakthrough through Ukrainian defenses is unlikely. In recent weeks, Ukraine has mobilized a concerted effort to improve field fortifications as its forces shift to more defensive tactics along much of the front line. This is what the British intelligence agency wrote in its latest summary of military actions in the social network X.
This follows Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s calls since late November 2023 for faster consolidation in key sectors.
In one part of the project, Ukraine is working to improve defenses along its border with Belarus with dragon’s teeth, barbed wire and anti-tank ditches from mid-December 2023.
Simultaneously, Russia continues to attempt a local attack in several sectors, but individual attacks rarely exceed platoon size. A major Russian breakthrough is unlikely and the front is generally characterized by stasis, British intelligence wrote.
