The finish at the World Championships in rowing on boats of the Dragon class in Thailand turned out to be curious: the Ukrainian crew crossed the line on a flooded ship.
In the swim at a distance of 2000 meters, the Ukrainian dragon boat (the so-called long canoe, with a dragon’s head and tail in sports circles) was flooded 200 meters before the finish line. The reason for this was a wave from rivals, but the crew continued to row to the last, reaching the sixth place out of nine teams. This was reported by the Dragonboat Federation of Ukraine in social networks.
The boat “Dragon” is a 20-seat canoe, including the drummer and guide in the tail section. This type of rowing originated in China. According to various estimates, about 50 million athletes are now performing on the “Dragons” in the Celestial Empire.
We add that on June 7, the International Rowing Federation (World Rowling) allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in competitions in a neutral status.
