Courts in Ukraine sent into custody with the possibility of bail two executives and a representative of companies that were one of the largest suppliers to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, as part of a case of large-scale theft of money for the needs of the military. This was reported by the Ukrainian publication “Public. News”.
It is noted that the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of over 500 million hryvnia (almost $13.3 million) Vladimir Tymkiv, Andrey Kolotilas well as an unnamed person involved – heads and representatives of companies controlled by the Lviv businessman Igor Grinkevichwho is also a suspect in the same criminal case.
As specified in the telegram channel of the office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, three suspects were detained until March 16.
The publication also reports that the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) of Ukraine has put Grinkevich’s son on the wanted list Romanit is not yet known where he is currently located.
A few months ago, the State Bureau of Investigation opened a case of corruption in the supply of clothing and linen to the Ukrainian army. According to investigators, companies associated with Grinkevich won tenders for the supply of clothing totaling 1.5 billion hryvnia ($39.3 million at the current exchange rate of the National Bank of Ukraine). It turned out that these companies were registered as construction companies and did not have the production or warehouse capacity to fulfill the order. The investigation believes that as a result, budget losses amounted to more than 1 billion hryvnia (about $26.3 million). The SBI stated that it is also checking former Defense Ministry officials in connection with these transactions. According to Ukrainian media, we are talking about companies associated with Grinkevich and members of his family.
Grinkevich himself was detained on December 29, 2023. It was reported that he offered a bribe of $500 thousand to one of the heads of the main investigative department of the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine for assistance in returning property that was seized from his companies during an investigation into contracts with the Ministry of Defense. Afterwards, the court chose a preventive measure for him in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 429.44 million hryvnia ($11.3 million at the exchange rate of the National Bank of Ukraine at that time). On January 11, by court decision, his property was seized.
Several journalistic investigations about expensive real estate and luxury cars of members of the Grinkevich family have appeared in the Ukrainian media. Observers found that companies associated with the businessman’s family, despite their bad business reputation, received contracts from the Ministry of Defense for several years, including for the supply of products for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as construction contracts. The scandal in the media turned out to be so resonant that officials who had previously dealt with his companies began to disown Grinkevich. In particular, the head of the Lviv regional military administration Maxim Kozitskywho appeared in joint photographs, hastened to declare that he did not provide any patronage to the businessman.
