Ukrainian military chief said his country made the biggest mistake, missing the opportunity to take advantage of the patriotic spirit among the people during the first six months of the full-scale war, UNIAN news agency reported .
Oleksandr Bukatar of the 3rd Special Forces Brigade “Spartan” (part of the National Guard) admitted that many men now go into hiding because they forget that the constitution has obligations Ukraine, not just rights.
“We made the biggest mistake – we missed that loving spirit that was there in the first six months. We should have followed it, developed it, even then we should have written it into the law of motion, and then everything would have been different,” said Bukatar .
Talking about the big cities, especially Kiev and Kharkiv, the leader said that the people there do not understand what exactly is happening on the front line. He especially remembered phrases like “this is not my war” and “I didn’t study for this.” Bukatar emphasized that the Russians are a sneaky enemy that will not stop their attacks.
In the early months of the war, many Ukrainians volunteered to join the army to defend their country. Now, however, Kiev has a big problem with moving, because some of the newly moved are not so motivated, and others try to hide from the law and their duties.
Earlier this month, the US-based WSJ reported that the Russian military had killed 80,000 Ukrainian soldiers since the start of the war. Volodymyr Zelensky later denied those numbers and said the reported information was a lie. Kiev, for obvious reasons, like Moscow, keeps secret the number of casualties in the war (killed and wounded).
