KIEV – The crews of two Ukrainian BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles surrendered to Russian troops near the town of Avdeyevka in Donbass.

TASS news agency reported on Tuesday (13/6/2023), citing an unnamed Russian security official.

According to the official, a platoon member on Ukraine’s 110th detached mechanized bridge had radioed Russian troops.

“Ukrainian troops requested medical assistance for their injured soldiers after commanders refused to evacuate their units,” said a Russian security official.

The Ukrainian officer reportedly asked for safe passage and said, “The rest of the unit will surrender with all their weapons, including the two BMP-1s.”

“In all, ten soldiers were detained, including several soldiers with serious injuries,” the Russian official said.

The official added that the military personnel who were arrested were receiving medical assistance and were being investigated for involvement in war crimes.

Russian war correspondent Andrey Rudenko posted a video late on Monday that allegedly shows Russian soldiers holding the crew of a Ukrainian BMP-1.
