The commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces announced Monday that “fierce battles” are taking place with Russian forces for control of the center of the city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine.
The commander of the Ukrainian ground forces, Oleksandr Sersky, confirmed earlier information reported by the Russian side.
The army’s media office quoted Sirsky as saying that the Russians “are attacking Bakhmut from several directions…to advance towards the central neighborhoods.”
And Sirsky had announced earlier that the situation on the contact line in the Bakhmut region is still difficult.
“The Wagner offensive forces are advancing in several directions, trying to break through the defenses of our forces and advance to the central areas of the city,” Sersky told Ukrainian media.
On the other hand, the head of the Russian armed group “Wagner”, Yevgeny Prigozhin, acknowledged that the battles in Bakhmut are getting more difficult.
“The closer we get to the city center, the fiercer the battles,” Wagner’s founder said.
And the day before, Prigozhin said, the fighters of the group continue to move forward despite the fact that the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is throwing more and more new reserves into battle.
