Ukrainian Army Officials Warn of Imminent Loss of Avdiyivka to Russian Forces

According to Ukrainian army officials, the loss of Avdiyivka is only a matter of time, and they already had to abandon some positions on Thursday as Russian forces began to advance rapidly.

Alexander Borodin, a representative of the 3rd independent strike brigade, confirmed that the situation in Avdiyivka is “very difficult”: Russian troops are advancing in much greater numbers than Ukrainian forces – the ratio is 1:7.

The United States has also called the situation in Avdiyivka “critical”. According to John Kirby, strategic communications coordinator for the National Security Council, the city is “on the brink” of falling under full Russian control because the Ukrainian army is running out of ammunition.

It was reported today that the Ukrainian army has sent reinforcements to Avdiyivka, the Ukrainian 3rd separate assault brigade announced on Thursday, describing the situation in the city as extremely critical.

The Russians have been actively attacking the city of Donetsk region since last year, and it is surrounded on three sides.

“The third separate strike brigade confirms that it was urgently moved to reinforce Ukrainian troops in the Avdiyivka region,” the brigade said on the Telegram website.

The Russians have made progress in recent weeks in their bid to capture the city, and street fighting has been reported on the outskirts of the city. A high-ranking Ukrainian military official admitted on Wednesday that the enemy has the upper hand on the battlefield.
