MOSCOW (Reuters) – Ukrainian forces launched a major offensive into the Russian-held eastern city of Donetsk on Monday morning. Said a Russian-appointed official.
“(Ukrainian forces) carried out the most massive attack on central Donetsk since 2014 at exactly 7 am this morning,” Donetsk Mayor Alexei Kremzin said in a messaging app. He said 40 rockets were fired at civilians, calling the attack a war crime.
Reuters could not confirm the facts. The Ukrainian authorities have not yet responded to questions about the mayor’s remarks.
Kremzin told Russian state television that five people, including a child, were injured in the shelling, according to preliminary information. The shelling damaged kindergartens, schools, universities, student hospitals and cathedrals.
