[Central News Agency]The Ukrainian military confirmed that an ammunition depot exploded on the Russian-occupied Crimea peninsula today, and it was indeed an attack by the Ukrainian army.
“There were attacks on military installations in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, indeed by Ukrainian forces,” a Ukrainian military source told AFP on condition of anonymity.
Russia-backed Crimea’s chief executive, Sergei Aksyonov, said earlier that Ukrainian drone strikes on Crimea caused the explosion of an ammunition depot and ordered the evacuation of residents within 5 kilometers of the site of the attack and the suspension of railways.
“Due to the explosion of an ammunition depot due to an enemy drone attack on the Krasnogvardeisky area, it has been decided to evacuate (residents) the population within 5 km of the area,” Aksenov said on Telegram.
Aksenov also said that rail traffic on the Crimean peninsula will be stopped. “In order to minimize the risk, it was also decided to stop the Crimean railway,” he said.
As the Kiev authorities launched a counteroffensive to try to regain the land occupied by the Moscow authorities, the Ukrainian army has intensified its attacks on the Crimea peninsula deep into the Black Sea, and at the same time expressed its intention to retake the Crimea peninsula. Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014. 1120723
