Ukrainian Armed Forces Outsmart Russian Electronic Warfare with FPV Drones

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have learned to change drone frequencies in such a way that Russian electronic warfare systems often become ineffective.

Russian military propagandists complain about the increased number and effectiveness of FPV drones used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The Z-Telegram channel “Two Majors” reports that Ukrainian troops are successfully and more actively using drones at the front.

The main problem that propagandists say the Russian military faces is the ability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to quickly change drone frequencies. This makes the electronic warfare (EW) systems that Russia uses to neutralize drones ineffective.

“FPV drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine pose a huge problem along the entire front,” writes channel Z.

At the same time, the Russian bureaucratic system does not allow it to quickly respond to new challenges. Bulky and clumsy, it is not capable of providing flexible and rapid changes in electronic warfare production technology to counter the “Ukrainian carousel” of FPV drones.

FPV drones (First Person View) are drones equipped with cameras that broadcast video in real time to the operator’s glasses. This allows the operator to control the drone from a first-person perspective, which greatly improves the accuracy and efficiency of its use.

In recent months, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been actively using FPV drones for reconnaissance, adjusting artillery fire, and also for attacks on Russian positions. Experts note that these drones have become one of the most important factors influencing the course of hostilities.

The enemy is already changing frequencies and ordering industrial production from foreign factories with this changed parameter, that is, our electronic warfare is no longer always effective against them. Our well-known project for the production of such kamikaze UAVs, due to its organizational and legal form and corresponding bulkiness, can hardly afford this. It is necessary to diversify production, incl. by attracting front-line workshops, of which there are already a huge number.

Previously, Forbes found out how many FPV drones have been manufactured in Ukraine since the beginning of 2024.
