Initially, it was assumed that the Russians themselves shot down their fighter by mistake. However, the Air Force of Ukraine confirmed the destruction of the Su-34 by the fighters of the Nikopol anti-aircraft missile regiment, writes Focus.
On Friday, March 3, fighters from the Nikopol anti-aircraft missile regiment of the Vostok Aviation Command shot down a Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber. The press service of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine writes about this in its Telegram channel.
“For a long time, Air Force gunners have not enjoyed such a downed target,” the release said.
As specified, the plane was hit around 1:30 p.m. in the area of the Russian-occupied town of Enakievo, Donetsk region.
One of the pilots died, the second “is getting ready to keep him company”, specified the Air Force of the Air Force of Ukraine.
At 1:51 p.m., the so-called “mayor of Enakievo” Roman Khramenkov announced on his Telegram channel that a plane had been shot down over the territory of the occupied city. He urged local residents to “leave the streets” and added that “the situation is becoming clear”.
At 14:16 Ukrainian journalist Denis Kazansky also spoke about the destruction of the Russian fighter jet. At the same time, he suggested that the occupying forces themselves shot down their plane by mistake.
“It’s a deep rear, so the Russians themselves most likely shot them down with their own air defense curve,” Kazansky commented.
Russian propaganda media reported that the pilots allegedly managed to eject. A resident of Enakievo also told reporters that shortly before the accident, two planes “were circling in the sky and then very quickly flew one after the other.”
Local residents who shot video of the downed plane said the plane exploded after crashing.
The pictures show a black column of smoke rising over the occupied city.
