Ukrainian and Russian Forces Engage in Fierce Fighting on Eastern Banks of Dnipro

Fierce fighting is ongoing between Ukrainian and Russian forces on the eastern banks of the Dnipro in Kherson County in southern Ukraine.

The situation is very unclear.

– Against all odds, the Ukrainian defense has established a foothold on the eastern bank of the Dnieper, says Andriy Jermak, adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj, according to the Reuters news agency.

– A burning hell

Russian authorities confirm that “small groups” of Ukrainian soldiers have crossed the Dnipro and are on the river’s eastern banks.

However, they claim that the situation is very difficult for the Ukrainian forces.

– The average lifespan of a Ukrainian soldier on the east bank of the Dnipro is a little over two days, writes Vladimir Saldo, the Russian-appointed governor of Kherson county, on Telegram.

Saldo further claims that the Ukrainian forces are “trapped” in the village of Krynky.

– The enemy is confined in Krynky and exposed to a burning hell: Bombs, rockets, artillery fire and drones are raining down on them, writes Saldo further.

In its daily update, the ISW reports that Ukrainian forces have gained a large enough foothold on the eastern banks of the Dnipro that they have managed to establish supply lines.

Through geolocation of image material, ISW has also been able to confirm that the Ukrainian forces have moved at least two kilometers into Russian-occupied territory.

Already on 19 October, Ukrainian forces are said to have managed to reach the village of Krynky, which is located 15 kilometers east of Kherson city.
