Ukrainian Ambassador Estimates $14 Billion in Damage from Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant Destruction

The Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Oleksiy Makeev, believes that the damage from the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant will be around 14 billion USD, he said in an interview with the Funke media group.

According to Makeev, the damage to the fishing industry due to the loss of biological resources will be serious, noting that the death of fish has already been registered in the Kherson region.

“Costs for the rapid recovery of Ukraine this year alone amounted to USD 14.1 billion,” the ambassador said. Of these, 3.3 billion USD, as specified by the diplomat, have already been allocated to the budget of Ukraine.

Over 20,000 hectares of agricultural land have remained unused for many years, the ambassador noted. “Grain warehouses are under water. Few ships in the Black Sea ports that deliver grain around the world can be loaded,” concluded Makeev.
