The Ukrainian Air Force informed that the missile was shot down by the “Patriot” anti-aircraft defense system in the sky above Kyiv on Thursday around 2:30 am.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who unveiled the Kinzhal in 2018, described it as an “ideal weapon” that is extremely difficult for anti-missile systems to intercept.
Over the winter, Russia stepped up air attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, prompting Ukraine to ask its Western allies to strengthen its air defense system.
In mid-April, Ukraine received the first Patriot missiles, which are considered one of the most advanced US air defense systems.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi emphasized that the system will significantly strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities against Russian attacks.
