Ukrainian Air Force Shoots Down Russian A-50 Aircraft and Damages Il-22M11 – January 14 Incident

According to information from sources in the Defense Forces, it became known that the Air Force shot down a military aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces A-50 and damaged the Il-22M11, tail number 75106.

Reportedly, the A-50 aircraft was shot down immediately after it went on duty in the Kirillovka area around 21:10-21:15 on January 14. The A-50 disappeared from radar and stopped responding to tactical aviation requests, and later the pilot of a Su-30 aircraft of the Russian Air Force discovered the ignition and crash of an unidentified aircraft.

The Il-22M11 aircraft was on duty in the Strelkovoy area, and was eventually shot down along the coast of the Azov Sea at about 21:00 on January 14. After the defeat, the plane planned to land in Anapa, requested evacuation, calling an ambulance and a fire truck.

The source provided RBC-Ukraine with an interception of a conversation between the plane and the airfield controller in Anapa:

What is the situation at the front?

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, over the past day, January 13, 61 military clashes took place. Meanwhile, the enemy is actively trying to storm and seize new territories in the Donetsk region.

Meanwhile, analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) argue that the Russians could form air assault brigades that would act as specialized units for landing and reconnaissance behind Ukrainian defense lines.

Analysts also report that due to the activity of Ukrainian drones, Russia is shooting down its own UAVs on the left bank of the Dnieper.
