Ukraine’s Slow and Steady Progress in Counterattack Against Russian Defensive Fortifications

On Monday, Ukrainian forces bombed the administrative building of the governor of the Donetsk region with 3 “Haimers” missiles.

The intensity of attacks has escalated during the recent period on more than one front in Ukraine, despite the slow progress being made by the Ukrainian counterattack, which faces very strong Russian defensive fortifications.

Former Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hana Malyar, who was dismissed on Monday, said that Kiev last week regained two square kilometers of territory around the devastated city of Bakhmut in the east of the country, which Russian forces seized in May after months of fighting.

Maliar added that Kiev forces also regained two villages located in the southern part of the city, namely Andreevka and Klishchevka.

According to Maliyar, Kiev forces have liberated 51 square kilometers of territory near Bakhmut since the start of the counterattack.

It was reported that Ukrainian forces continue to repel the Russian attack on the towns of Avdiivka and Marinka in the south in the Donetsk region.

She added that the Ukrainian forces are trying to advance towards the Sea of Azov in a move in the south aimed at splitting the ranks of the Russian forces, and the move succeeded in recovering an area of 5.2 kilometers in the past week.

In total, Ukraine regained more than 260 square kilometers in the south during the counterattack.

Ukraine reports slow and steady progress against Russian defensive fortifications during the three-month counterattack.
