US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s letter to the defense ministers of Denmark and the Netherlands has apparently settled the question of whether Ukraine can get F-16 fighter jets once and for all.
The answer is yes.
– I am writing to you to express the United States’ full support for both the transfer of F-16 fighters to Ukraine and the training of Ukrainian pilots by qualified F-16 instructors, Blinken wrote in the letter, which became known on Thursday.
A copy was sent to the Reuters news agency.
The Ukrainians have long asked for fighter jets. They believe it will give them a decisive military strike that could force the Russians to retreat. But several things must be in place before Ukraine will see the return of the planes.
