“Ukraine’s Push for NATO Membership: Summit in Vilnius to Bring Clarity”

“I think everyone understood that becoming a member in the middle of a war is not on the agenda. The question is what happens when the war is over,” he said at an event organized by the German Marshall Fund in Brussels.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to personally attend the next NATO summit in Vilnius in July.

Recall that earlier NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that all NATO member countries agree that Ukraine will become a member of the Alliance, but now its victory should be ensured.

Ukraine’s position on NATO

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine had done everything to ensure that its application to NATO was approved.

In turn, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba was no less categorical when he said that Ukraine does not see and does not want an alternative to NATO membership, therefore, it expects a “schedule of entry” from the summit in Vilnius. In particular, as noted by Olga Stefanishyna, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, we are talking about a clear algorithm for moving towards joining the Alliance.

The same position was voiced by the head of the permanent Ukrainian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Yegor Chernev. In a commentary to RBC-Ukraine, he noted that Ukraine expects a clear decision from the Alliance on the invitation to join.
