Ukraine’s President Zelensky Introduces New Mobilization Bill: What You Need to Know

“The issue of fair mobilization is a matter of rotation. You are tired, you must recover. You go out to recover, and another person comes in your place, a professional who has undergone appropriate training. And mobilization depends on this,” the president said.

Zelensky added that a certain number of people are needed to protect and defend the country, but for a counter-offensive the number is different.

“Therefore, the issue of mobilization is a complex matter,” the country’s leader noted.

New mobilization bill

On January 30, the government re-introduced to the Verkhovna Rada a bill on mobilization, military registration and military service. The document, in particular, proposes to change the procedure for its implementation.

The draft law contains provisions for changing the rules for the travel of military personnel abroad, for providing “reservation” from conscription for Ukrainians, for permission to send summonses through an electronic account, for reducing the conscription age to 25 years, for restrictions on draft dodgers, and more.

As Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk said, people’s deputies have 14 days between the first and second reading of the mobilization bill in order to make their own amendments to it.
