President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss the issue of the war in Ukraine. The United States (US) and Russia also responded to this historic event.
The incident was the first time Zelensky spoke to Xi since Russia invaded Ukraine.
“Xi Jinping made a phone call with Ukrainian President Zelensky,” said the broadcaster of Chinese TV station CCTV. AFP, Wednesday (26/4/2023).
During the conversation, Xi told Zelensky that talks and negotiations were the “only way out” of war.
Zelensky has said many times that he would be open to talks with his Chinese counterpart, Xi.
Beijing is officially neutral in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. But, Xi never condemned the Russian invasion.
China once called for a 12-point “political settlement” for the crisis in Ukraine.

Yu Jun from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the call was initiated by the Ukrainian side.
Meanwhile, President Zelensky called his phone call with Xi Jinping “long and meaningful”.
“I had a long and meaningful phone call with President Xi Jinping,” Zelensky said on Twitter.
“I believe that this call, as well as the appointment of the Ukrainian Ambassador to China, will give a strong impetus to the development of our bilateral relations,” he wrote.
Spokesman ZelenskySergiy Nykyforov said on Facebook that the two had “almost an hour long phone conversation”.
