“Yes. We will win this war,” the minister said, answering a question from journalists whether he thinks that the war will end by the summer of 2024
According to him, at the next NATO summit to be held in Washington (USA) in July 2024, Ukraine can be accepted into the North Atlantic Alliance. Then the war may end, Reznikov noted.
“Who knows, maybe it will be a very important day for Ukraine. This is just my forecast,” the official said.
Reznikov also downplayed the US President Joe Biden’s administration’s refusal to commit to admitting Ukraine into NATO immediately after the end of the war.
“I think that this is not necessary. Ukraine will have an orderly admission process, and in the meantime will continue to work on the necessary reforms,” the head of the MOU said.
The Minister also stressed that the benefit of Ukraine’s admission to NATO has only increased, given its struggle against the military aggression of the Russian Federation.
“After the victory, after that, it will be in the interests of NATO, because we have become a real eastern shield of NATO or the eastern shield of Europe,” he said, adding that Ukraine has gained “real combat experience – how to deter the Russians, defeat them, use standard NATO weapons.”
Ukraine’s accession to NATO and the annual national program
Recall that following the results of the NATO summit in Vilnius, Ukraine did not receive clear terms and schedule of entry. At the same time, it agreed on a joint communiqué on Ukraine, in which they outlined a vision of what Ukraine’s path to membership in the Alliance should be like.
In particular, it was noted that Ukraine will receive an invitation after the countries of the bloc agree to it, and the state fulfills certain conditions. At the same time, the MAP (Membership Action Plan) was canceled for the state.
At the same time, Ukraine must complete the Annual National Program before the NATO summit in Washington in 2024. Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishina noted that consultations are now underway on what kind of document this will be. It is important that it will be approved in a bilateral format, and it will be a short program.
She also noted that, first of all, Ukraine will focus on blocks related to mutual compatibility and non-military assistance. In particular, the construction of NATO-compatible systems, including air defense, as well as the management of certain resources, rehabilitation and the implementation of NATO standards in defense.
According to Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine may receive an invitation to join NATO even before it completes the Annual National Programme.
