Ukraine’s parliament on Tuesday voted overwhelmingly in favor of dismissing Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, and is expected to vote on the nomination of a new minister on Wednesday.
And 327 deputies voted in favor of removing Reznikov from office, against only 4 votes against.
Reznikov had sent his letter of resignation to parliament today, where it was approved by the relevant committee. Now, Zelensky has to present the name of the new candidate, in order to get the parliament’s approval.
On September 3, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the decision to replace Reznikov with the current head of the State Property Fund, Rustam Omirov.
Zelensky’s decision, which called for a “new approach” in the ministry, came after a year and a half of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, and about 4 months after the Ukrainian counterattack, as the Ukrainian forces suffered heavy losses in their numbers and equipment, on several axes, most notably Donetsk and Zaporizhia. and Artyomovsk.
Last July, the dismissed Ukrainian Minister of Defense acknowledged the failure of his country’s counterattack, and that it had not achieved its goals on time.
The Ukrainian command centers witnessed increasing disagreements, due to the lack of any progress, according to what the American magazine “Newsweek” revealed, stressing that the Ukrainian allegations of inflicting heavy losses on the Russian defenses are incorrect.
And in Russia, the Minister of Defense, Sergei Shoigu, announced earlier in the day that the Kiev forces had suffered heavy losses in their lives, exceeding 66,000 soldiers, since the start of their counterattack, without achieving any breakthrough on any axis.
