The issue of granting Ukraine an Action Plan for NATO membership is no longer on the agenda.
This was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba after a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Commission in Brussels, writes “European Truth”.
Commenting on the statement by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on the development of a multi-year support program for Ukraine, which will help it get closer to NATO, Kuleba explained that this is not about the MAP.
“The issue of the MAP is off the agenda because we have submitted an application. This is an additional strengthening of a comprehensive assistance package from NATO. And this cannot be a substitute for membership, and cannot be a condition for membership. This is a practical assistance mechanism that NATO wants to make it as powerful as possible, and in parallel, there is a process of making political decisions regarding Ukraine’s membership in NATO,” he said.
Kuleba stressed that at the NATO summit in Vilnius, Ukraine definitely expects formalized decisions.
“These should be decisions that bring Ukraine’s membership closer to NATO. We are not looking for solutions that only state the state of relations. Repeating once again that NATO’s doors remain open will not be enough,” he added.
Earlier, the media reported that Stoltenberg was asking member countries to allocate 500 million euros a year for the Comprehensive Assistance Package to Ukraine, through which it receives non-lethal assistance.
The first meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission since 2017 took place on Tuesday, when the education law that Budapest opposes was passed.
