Ukraine’s Expectations for NATO Summit Likely to be Unfulfilled, Membership Invitation Unlikely

The expectations of the Ukrainian society from the NATO summit “will not be satisfied”, and Ukraine will not be invited to join the Alliance during the event, said the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate Kirill Budanov. He spoke about this in an interview. The Times.

The journalist noted that Budanov was “sure” in the interview that Ukraine would not be invited to join NATO at the summit next week.

“It’s hard enough for me to do justice to the NATO summit for a very simple reason: the expectations of our society will not be met,” the head of the GUR said.

It is noted that Budanov at the same time sounded for a moment “more disappointed with the behavior of his allies than with the behavior of his enemies.”

He added that “some words” will be announced at the summit, but there will be “nothing else”.

Budanov also noted that he had seen drafts of speeches at the NATO summit.

“I’m pretty sure they’ll be talking up front: I’ve seen the drafts of the speeches,” he said.
