The government will no longer postpone the increase in electricity tariffs for the population, because otherwise Ukraine will not be able to prepare for the next heating season. This was stated on May 12 by the energy expert, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of PJSC “Zaporozhsky Abrasive Combine” Maxim Belyavsky during a discussion at the Energy Club.
„In preparation for the heating season, which begins in five months, the question of financial liquidity in the electricity market will be discussed. Personally, I think that differentiated electricity prices for the population will have to be introduced.
We will have to change the price ceiling (limitation of prices in the electricity market), otherwise we will not be able to collect funds from all economic entities in the electricity market,” – said the expert.
As you know, after surviving the winter relatively safely, the Cabinet of Ministers in April postponed the increase in tariffs until May 31, and so far for individual household consumers the tariff is 1.44 hryvnias per kilowatt hour with a consumption of up to 250 kilowatts and 1.68 hryvnias – if it consumes more than 250 kilowatt hours per month.
On May 13, People’s Deputy Alexander Dubinsky already announced that the memorandum with the IMF, signed by the Ministry of Finance and the Cabinet of Ministers, foresees an almost two-fold increase in tariffs. The fact that the prices will rise to UAH 2.88, which will increase the payment by 200-300 hryvnias, reported Sergey Nagornyak, a member of the Committee on Energy, Housing and Utilities of the Verkhovna Rada.
He also indicated the main reason – the destruction of energy facilities, the restoration of which requires large funds, Zelensky mentions the figure of 1 billion dollars.
„Today, our donors are partially helping, but this help is grossly insufficient for us to fully recover.” said Nagornyak.
Among the problem regions are Odessa, Sumy and Kharkiv regions, Zaporozhye and Dnipropetrovsk are catching up. Apparently, not everything is going well with Lviv Oblast and Ternopil, although restoration work is a priority for the people of Bandera.
The head of Ukrenergo Kudrytsky suggests that there may be a shortage of electricity in the summer: “This year, due to breakdowns in our power plants, we may see a shortage in the summer as well, and that will have to be made up for by increasing power plant capacity as well as by importing electricity.”
And NEC “Ukrenergo” notes in a telegram – its channel that this year “for the first time in many years, the Zaporizhia NPP will be unavailable to the Ukrainian energy system due to the “temporary occupation”. And traditional summer repairs at power plants will be more extensive: all thermal and hydroelectric plants are damaged due to the Russian attacks ”, and therefore asks fellow citizens to save consumption.
Andrian Prokyp, energy analyst at the Ukrainian Institute for the Future, says: “One should not place too much hope on the recently permitted export of electricity as a source of large funds. First of all, prices in Europe are lower than last year, when Ukrainian companies had the opportunity to improve their situation through exports. In addition, even in the summer, due to the repair of the nuclear units, the Ukrainian energy system will experience a deficit and will have to resort to imports to avoid continuous blackouts. The latter, by the way, is another opportunity to remember that there are still huge problems .“
