KIEV – National Guard Ukraine Azov Brigade, which was banned in Russia and designated as a terrorist organization, has returned to the front and started carrying out combat missions in the Serebriansky Forest area near Kreminna, Luhansk region.
“The legendary Azov special forces brigade was restored and started carrying out combat missions in the Serebriansky Forest area,” said Mykola Urshalovych, acting director of the planning department at the main directorate of the National Guard, according to state news agency Ukrinform.
“The Azov army reliably defended the lines and inflicted heavy losses on the enemy in manpower and equipment.” Al ArabiaFriday (18/8/2023).
Urshalovych added that on August 15, the brigade’s gunners destroyed Russian mortars and BAT-2 engineering vehicles in the Serebriansky Forestry area. He noted that both targets had been hit by direct hits.
In addition, the Azov Brigade released a video of the destruction of Russian infantry fighting vehicles in the Zaporizhzhia direction.
“Azov Special Purpose Brigade is working towards Zaporizhzhia,” the brigade said on Telegram.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine said earlier this month: “Soldiers of the Azov Brigade conducted tactical exercises. The main goal of the tactical exercise is to solve practical problems of planning and organizing battles in attack and defense, leading units in battle and their comprehensive support. Brigade commander Denys ‘Redis’ Prokopenko is also in the ranks,” as quoted by Ukrinform.
On July 31, Commander of the National Guard Oleksandr Pivnenko said that five Azov commanders who were repatriated from Turkey to Ukraine on July 8 were preparing and would perform duties like everyone else.
The five are: Commander of the Azov regiment Denis Prokopenko (Redis), his deputy Svyatoslav Palamar (Kalyna), senior officer Oleg Khomenko, acting commander of the 36th separate marine brigade Serhiy Volynsky (Volyna) and commander of the 12th brigade of the Ukrainian National Guard Denis Shleha returning to the house.
The director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergey Naryshkin said earlier that the circumstances surrounding the surrender of the Azov commander to Kiev highlight Turkey’s failure to fulfill its obligations in this matter, the TASS news agency reported.
