Ukraine’s Air Force Constantly Monitors Threats from Russian Missiles and Drones

said Yuriy Ignat, spokesman for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Ukraine monitors all air signals and information about the launch of missiles or drones from the Russian side around the clock, as information is provided instantly along Ukrainian territory.

“The Air Force of the Armed Forces actively monitors the launch of enemy missiles and drones. They do this with the help of radar stations and information from partners,” the Ukrainian official said in a press interview.

Ignat pointed out that “the Air Force was provided with operational information from the military administration, and the Ukrainian Air Force does not announce through its official pages all warnings so as not to cause concern to people, especially at night.”

“It is necessary to assess and reassess any particular threat or risk,” he added.

When is the threat serious?

“Our official Telegram channels indicate a serious threat:

When Russian missile launchers “Tu-22”, “Tu-95” and “Tu-160” take off from nearby areas and airports. When there is information about launches from warships, when we detect any movement of Russian drones towards the Ukrainian sky.

He said, “When our air defense system works, it is necessary for people to go to shelters, because the scattered debris from the targets we are targeting in the sky will cause damage if it falls.”

Information sources

Ignat noted that information about threats comes from different sources:

There are radar stations spread all over the country. Ukraine also receives information from the allies.

“It is clear that when, for example, the Tu-160 or Tu-95 takes off, we get this information from somewhere, because we cannot track it on our own. Space intelligence is also needed. Therefore, we use all sources of information,” he added.

At the same time, Ignat noted, this information does not always arrive on time.

He explained that there are cases where the alarm is not announced, but an explosion is heard, so “it is necessary to understand that the Russians can launch S-300s or RSZVs or Iskander-Kay or Toshka-U missiles from a distance of 100 kilometers. Thus we can have less than a minute from the launch of the missile to its arrival. However, if this information is available, the Air Force is trying to provide it.”

Earlier, Ignat talked about the ability of the F-16 to enhance the air defense of Ukraine. According to him, it will be possible to get almost 100 percent close to shooting down air targets.
