In a new interview, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj says that if the defenders of Mariupol are “destroyed”, it is the end of the peace talks with Russia, reports Ukrainian Pravda.
Negotiations between Ukraine and Russia have stalled after many civilian casualties were found in the cities of Butsja and Borodjanka.
“Mariupol may turn out to be like ten Borodjankas, and I want to make it clear that the destruction of our defense, our men, will end all negotiations,” the president said, adding:
– A dead end – because we do not exchange our territories and our people. And the more Borodjanka, the harder it will be.
Mariupol has been besieged since the invasion of Ukraine began. Tens of thousands of residents are still in the bombed-out city, and humanitarian conditions are precarious.
Nevertheless, the Russians have not yet managed to gain control of the city, located in the eastern Donbas region, where Russian military efforts are now concentrated.
