EU also sanctions Nightwolves, Putin’s Hells Angels
The EU Council further extends the list of subjects sanctioned in Russia for the war in Ukraine, adding 54 individuals and 10 legal entities, in addition to the maintenance and alignment package approved yesterday. Among those sanctioned, explains High Representative Josep Borrell, there is also the Nightwolves motorcycle club, Nochnye Volki in Russian, born in the 1980s in the Soviet Union and inspired by the American Hells Angels. Unlike the Californian bikers, however, the Russian Night Wolves are very close to power, so much so that they are nicknamed ‘Putin’s Angels’, Putin’s angels. The Russian president is an honorary member of the Nochnye Volki, who have a small commercial empire, and has also paraded with them aboard a three-wheeled Harley Davidson, military historian Joseph Micallef reports on Militaria.com.
Devoted to the Orthodox Church, they are anti-gay, anti-feminist and anti-Western. In addition, they function as a complementary militia for Putin. In addition to the club, its founder, Alexander Zaldostanov, born in Crimea in 1963, is hit with an asset freeze and a ban on travel to the EU.
