Kiev restores river ports for grain exports
Ukraine is restoring and renovating disused river ports to be able to export grain via Romania. Among them the port of the Reni River, the most important in the Danube area in Soviet times, which was now abandoned, he explained to the Guardian the responsible for agriculture of the Odessa region, Alla Stoyanova. That port “was no longer used. We are now working to expand it, as well as other river ports, in order to increase their capacity. As we speak 160 ships are in the Black Sea waiting to enter the Sulina channel, but the latter it has a capacity of only 5-6 ships per day, “says Stoyanova. Of the 25 million tons of grain in the silos and ports of the Odessa region at the start of the invasion, five were exported by land, rail or rivers. The problem is above all of capacity: a ship in the Black Sea can carry 50 thousand tons, but a truck only 25 and a train train 60. And queues are created because neighboring countries are not able to manage an important influx of grain from the point of logistic view.
