Ukraine war: minute of silence on Friday in Hamburg | NDR.de – News

As of: 02/22/2023 6:57 p.m

Under the motto “Hamburg is standing still” there will be a minute’s silence on Friday afternoon to mark the first anniversary of the Russian attack on Ukraine. The initiator is the association MenschenHHamburg.

It is a sign of solidarity that should go out into the world from Hamburg and a sign of solidarity for all refugees from Ukraine who have found shelter in the city: on Friday at 12 o’clock on the dot, Hamburg should pause for a minute and the victims commemorate the war.

Promotions at elevated railways, airports and spa areas

The Hamburger Hochbahn will stop all trains for one minute. Operations at Hamburg Airport will also be suspended for one minute. After the minute’s silence at 12.01 sharp, the Ukrainian national anthem is to be played in the Baederland swimming pools.

Lars Meier from Verein MenschHamburg not only calls on all Hamburg residents to take part in the minute of silence, but also on companies, institutions, associations and authorities.

NDR Hamburg participates

NDR Hamburg is also taking part: NDR 90.3 shifts the news at 12 noon and plays the peace song “Imagine” by John Lennon. The Hamburg Journal reports on the actions in the city on NDR television.

4 p.m.: Rally on the Rathausmarkt

For Friday at 4 p.m., the German Federation of Trade Unions, together with welfare organizations, the Nordkirche and the tenants’ association, have called for a large rally on the Rathausmarkt.

Senate and Consulate General of Ukraine commemorate together

Officially, the Hamburg Parliament and Hamburg Senate, together with the Consulate General of Ukraine, commemorate the victims of the war on the anniversary. Parliament President Carola Veit and Hamburg Mayor Peter Tschentscher (both SPD) lay wreaths at 5 p.m. at the Ernst Barlach stele on the Rathausmarkt. The Ukrainian auxiliary staff invites you to a memorial march. Hamburg’s second mayor Katharina Fegebank (Greens) speaks at the end of the goose market.
