Ukraine wants Apple to stop selling products in Russia

Fedorov made the request a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook. The minister called on Cook “to stop providing Apple services and products to Russia, including blocking access to the App Store”.

He also believes that Apple US sanctions against Russia. Those sanctions were imposed on Thursday after Russia launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops shell Ukrainian cities, aiming to take the capital Kiev.

“I am sure that you will do everything possible to protect Ukraine, Europe and the entire democratic world from bloody authoritarian aggression,” Fedorov said in a letter to Cook.

‘motivating young people to resist’

Apple has its own online store in the country that sells products directly to consumers. Recently, Apple was required by the Russian government to mark apps developed in Russia in the App Store.

Fedorov says blocking access to Apple products could “motivate young people in Russia to resist the outrageous military aggression.”

Sanctions did not affect Apple

The sanctions introduced by the US government prevent US manufacturers from exporting certain goods to Russia. But the sanctions don’t seem to affect Apple so far, as the company continued sales in Russia on Friday.

On Thursday, Cook posted another tweet saying he was “deeply concerned about the situation in Ukraine.” “We will support local humanitarian efforts. I think of the people who are now in danger and join all who call for peace.”
