A qualifying match for EuroBasket 2025 took place in Riga, in which the national teams of Ukraine and Portugal met. The game ended in victory for the Portuguese team.
The Blue-Yellows started the game nervously, but the Portuguese, on the contrary, did a lot of things. Unfortunately for us, the opponents’ three-point shots, with which the Portuguese national team bombarded the Ukrainians’ ring, were lost. Vitaly Stepanovsky’s team had a lot of losses, which added nervousness to the actions of our basketball players.
Problems in the game of the Ukrainian national team continued in the second quarter. Frequent losses and poor defensive play led to effective attacks from the opponents. As a result, the teams went into the big break with a 15-point advantage for the Portuguese.
In the third quarter, the situation on the court changed, and the difference in the score began to decrease. Voinalovych unexpectedly took over the leadership responsibilities and carried out several effective attacks. At the end of the quarter, the Ukrainians neutralized the guests’ advantage, but Brito’s three-pointer 5 seconds before the siren left Portugal in the lead. In the fourth quarter there was nervous basketball: the Portuguese were not going to give the game away, responding to the effective actions of the Ukrainians with their own successful attacks. With the score 77:79, 24 seconds before the siren, our team’s coaching staff called a timeout, after which Kovlyar’s pass ended in a loss.
The Ukrainian national team suffered a second defeat in the EuroBasket 2025 qualification. The next meeting of the “blue-yellows” will be held in November against Israel.
