Ukraine Urges Citizens to Conserve Electricity Due to Shortages Caused by Bad Weather

Due to increased consumption in bad weather conditions and the inclusion of new consumers in the energy system of Ukraine, a deficit of electricity has been registered. In this regard, the state operator Ukrenergo urged the citizens of the country to conserve electricity, UNIAN reports, citing the press service of the energy company.

“Since 13:00, a shortage of electricity has been registered in the energy system. The reason for the shortage is the rapid increase in consumption due to the severe weather conditions and the simultaneous connection of thousands of consumers from the regions affected by the bad weather to the network,” the announcement said.

Energy officials ask that electricity be saved throughout the day until 6:00 p.m.

“Consume electricity economically throughout the day until 18:00. Economical consumption does not mean that you should turn off everything in the house and sit in the dark,” explained the energy company.

Energy experts say that “it is enough to turn off the lights where they are not needed at the moment, and be careful how you use powerful electrical appliances: leave only the most necessary for work, and postpone all non-urgent tasks for the evening”.
