Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Thursday that his country will regularly obtain long-range American Atakum missiles from the United States.
This came two days after Kiev confirmed its use of these missiles for the first time.
The White House said on Tuesday that it had supplied Atakum missiles to Kiev, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukrainian forces had used these missiles in battles.
Kiev has been demanding that it be given these missiles, indicating that they could change the course of the crisis.
In response to a question about whether regular shipments of larger numbers of these missiles are expected, Kuleba said: “This is the meaning.”
He added, in statements broadcast on television, “This is a direct result of the agreement between President Zelensky and President (US Joe Biden) that they reached in Washington during a meeting in late September.”
It is not yet clear how many missiles Washington has actually delivered to Kiev. However, the New York Times quoted Western officials as saying that the United States has sent about 20 missiles so far.
