Ukraine to Gradually Transition towards Flexible Exchange Rate

The Minister noted that the issue of exchange rate is the competence of the National Bank of Ukraine and he would not like to comment on these things.

“Such provisions are indeed in the program, but they imply a gradual transition to a flexible exchange rate, when there are sufficient grounds for this. At the moment, there are certainly no sufficient grounds for this,” he said.

Recall that the Ukrainian authorities, in a letter of intent to the IMF leadership (Memorandum), undertook to prepare a transition strategy to a more flexible exchange rate by the end of June 2023.

“As soon as conditions permit, we intend to gradually move towards a more flexible exchange rate, loosen foreign exchange controls and return to an inflation targeting system,” the memorandum says.
