Three women have been killed in a small village in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region due to Russian shelling, its governor, Vadim Filaskin, has announced.
Filashkin noted that Russian forces hit the village of Cherkaske with cluster bombs this morning, killing three women — aged 43, 45 and 53 — and injuring a man. At least nine houses and several cars were damaged.
The governor of Donetsk called on residents to evacuate in a Telegram post.
The death toll from the Russian strike in Poltava is 58
Meanwhile, the death toll from last week’s Russian strike on the city of Poltava rose to 58 after three wounded succumbed, regional authorities said.
“Unfortunately, three other people who were injured in the Russian attack on Poltava on September 3 died in hospital. The death toll now stands at 58,” Filip Pronin, governor of Poltava province, said on Telegram.
Russia said the attack in Poltava, one of the deadliest in recent months, targeted a Ukrainian military “training center” and that it had “destroyed” its “targets”.
Ukrainian authorities have not specified how many of the victims are military and how many are civilians. More than 300 people have also been injured.
