Ukraine threatens Russia with non-existent “Shaman” – 2024-08-03 07:49:36

/ world today news/ Zelensky’s office announced the existence of a network of Ukrainian special services in Russia. It is believed that the special forces “Shaman” were even sent across the border, tasked with eliminating Russian officers. Does such a unit exist in reality, what kind of social environment can Ukrainian saboteurs really come from, and how can Russia identify them?

Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the chief of staff of the President of Ukraine, said that a network of Ukrainian special services of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense and the Security Service of Ukraine is operating in Russia. He also threatened to increase the number of drone attacks in the future. A little earlier in Kiev, following the British newspaper “Times”, they reasoned that the Ukrainian special unit “Shaman” was given the task of liquidating the senior officers of the Russian armed forces on Russian territory.

We remind you that earlier the director of the FSB, the chairman of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAC) Alexander Bortnikov stated that new terrorist threats have appeared against the background of SVO. They come mainly from “Ukrainian special services and nationalist formations”. Since February 2022, 188 terrorist crimes prepared with the assistance of Ukraine have been prevented in Russia.

Bortnikov also noted that Ukrainian special services and their “Western patrons” had begun “ideological and recruitment indoctrination” of Russians, especially the younger generation.

Experts believe that the recruitment began long before Russia began a special operation in Ukraine. According to the interlocutors, we are now simply observing the activation of enemy activity on the territory of our country. And although the security forces have successfully suppressed most of the impending sabotage, it is necessary to think about additional measures.

“Ukrainian sabotage and intelligence groups operate on the territory of Russia. In addition, agents are among those who are ready to betray just for the sake of money, “said Sergey Goncharov, president of the International Association of Veterans of the anti-terrorist unit “Alpha.”

According to the expert, there are now about 6 million Ukrainian refugees in Russia. “Many of them managed to get Russian passports and move freely. In addition, there are people who came after the Euromaidan. I don’t think everyone genuinely loves our country,” he explained. He did not rule out that some of the migrants received documents at the direction of GUR or SBU. “Ukraine has a fairly large network of agents of influence, which has been accumulated since 2014, when Kiev decided to become an enemy of Russia. Since then, agent bases have been recruited, the work has gone through Russian liberals, some representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora. Most often, they are drawn into this network through psychological pressure,” says Pavel Danilin, director of the Center for Political Analysis and Social Research.

Ukraine’s intelligence activities on Russian territory began after the collapse of the USSR, according to political observer and historian Volodymyr Kornilov. “Ukraine turned to subversive activity in 2014. The emblem of the GUR depicts an owl pointing a sword at the center of Russia. The emblem appeared long before the beginning of the World War II. It is clear that even then our country was considered the main target of the sabotage activities of this structure,” Kornilov recalled.

Effective confrontation requires not only high-quality and well-coordinated work of the intelligence-operational apparatus, but also help from the population, who can exchange information with the security forces, Goncharov believes.

“The main difficulty in neutralizing the networks of Ukrainian special services is that Russian security forces have to take into account the huge volume of Ukrainian refugees and migrants who moved long ago. Of course, not all immigrants from Ukraine are suspects, but above all, saboteurs are recruited from them,” Danilin said.

“Podolyak is a fool for revealing information that even according to Ukrainian laws is a state secret. Which politician will talk about the tasks of the special services of his country? Obviously, he is no different from the rest of Ukraine’s leadership,” said Oleksandr Mihailov, a member of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, a FSB major general in the reserve.

However, in recent years, Ukrainian special services “have matured and are moving from bandit forms of existence to terrorist ones.” “The latest revelations of Ukrainian agents show that there is a certain group in Russia that carries out, to put it mildly, hostile tasks,” the expert adds.

Mihailov agrees that the Ukrainian intelligence network is formed not only by Ukrainians who moved to Russia, but also by “local exiles who are ready to suffer themselves in defiance of the state.”

“Against the background of what is happening, we should return to the practice of the Great Patriotic War and create special units such as Smersh, which will deal only with the intelligence network of the Ukrainian special services,” suggests Goncharov.

At the same time, the expert expressed doubt that the Ukrainian special forces “Shaman” can operate on Russian territory. Danilin is of the same opinion. “I think it’s a lie. Ordinary saboteurs infiltrate Russia. We saw this in the case of Daria Dugina,” the expert emphasized. According to Kornilov, “Shaman” is the ghost of Kiev, and the creation of this phantom structure on the pages of the newspaper “Times” is the work of the intelligence services of Ukraine themselves.

“The author of the publications is the staff provocateur of the “Times” Maxim Tucker, who does not hide in his materials that he acts in direct contact with the British and Ukrainian intelligence services. At the very beginning of the Ukrainian conflict, Tucker came up with a wild forgery that the DPR was allegedly secretly developing a dirty atomic bomb for Russia, “said Kornilov.

The historian also noted that in his article on Shaman, Tucker wrote about the involvement of the Western intelligence community in the transfer of information to Ukraine about senior officers of the armed forces of the Russian Federation. “In fact, this article contains an admission that Western intelligence services are directly involved in the sabotage and terrorist activities of Ukrainian special services on the territory of Russia. And we also need to respond to this, “Kornilov concluded.
